AA Kenya has opened entries for the second edition of its Road Safety Excellence Awards, with 22 categories recognising individuals and organisations working to improve road safety in Kenya.
Applications for the 2026 awards are now open through the awards website https://awards.aakenya.co.ke/ , with nominations closing on September 4. Winners will be announced at the awards gala on October 23.
The awards cover a wide range of sectors, reflecting the fact that road safety extends well beyond drivers and transport operators. This year’s categories include companies, government institutions, financial and insurance organisations, educators, media, vehicle workshops, mobility companies and community groups.
Among the categories are Best Corporate in Road Safety, CEO of the Year in Road Safety, Road Safety Champion of the Year, Road Safety Innovation, Financial Institution of the Year and Insurance Company of the Year in Road Safety.
Other categories recognise Sustainable Mobility and EV Champion, Best Media in Road Safety, PSV SACCO in Road Safety, Logistics Institution in Road Safety, Educational Institution in Road Safety, Traffic Police Leadership, Boda Boda SACCO, Driver Safety and Wellness, Community Engagement, Road Contractor, Public Sector Institution and Best County in Road Safety.
The 2026 edition also gives greater attention to two areas that have a direct impact on everyday road use: vehicle maintenance and passenger travel.
The Automotive Workshop and Garage category recognises businesses that contribute to safer vehicles through proper maintenance and repairs, inspection practices, technician competence and customer education.
The Safe Mobility for Tours and Travel category focuses on how operators manage the safety of their vehicles and passengers. Entries will be assessed around areas such as vehicle standards, driver practices, maintenance and passenger protection.
The inclusion of the Sustainable Mobility and EV Champion category reflects another change on Kenyan roads. Electric vehicles are becoming more common, bringing new questions around infrastructure, vehicle standards, driver training and the safe adoption of new technology.
AA Kenya launched the awards in 2025 with support from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and other road safety stakeholders. The inaugural awards recognised individuals and organisations involved in driver safety, innovation, policy, community engagement, public transport, insurance, electric mobility and road safety education.
The awards are open to individuals and organisations operating in Kenya. Entrants are expected to demonstrate specific road safety initiatives and provide evidence of the work they have undertaken.
That evidence-based approach is central to the awards. The focus is on work that can be examined, measured and, where appropriate, adopted by others.
The second edition will conclude with the awards gala on October 23, bringing together the year’s leading road safety initiatives and the people behind them.
For those entering, the question is straightforward: what have you done to make roads safer, what difference has it made, and can others learn from it?
