AA Kenya joined hundreds of participants, healthcare professionals, families, government representatives, and corporate organisations at the DMI Diabetes Walk 2026 held at Carnivore Grounds on Saturday 11th July in Nairobi, in a united effort to raise awareness about diabetes and support children living with Type 1 diabetes.
The annual 12-kilometre charity walk was organised by the Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre (DMI) under the theme “15,000 Steps of Hope.”
The walk is one of Kenya’s longest-running diabetes awareness initiatives. It raises funds to provide life-saving insulin and diabetes care for children who cannot afford treatment, while also educating the public on the importance of early diagnosis, proper management of diabetes, and breaking the stigma surrounding the condition.
This year’s event attracted a diverse mix of participants, including schools with their students, healthcare workers, diabetes advocates, parents, children living with diabetes, development partners, past beneficiaries of the initiative, and members of the public. Corporate organisations also turned up in large numbers, demonstrating the growing commitment of the private sector to community health initiatives.
The walk served as a platform to remind Kenyans that Type 1 diabetes can affect anyone, particularly children, and that timely diagnosis, access to insulin and continuous medical care are essential for those living with the condition.
Participants also had the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals and learn more about diabetes prevention, treatment and healthy living.
To recognise their commitment, every participant who completed the walk received a certificate of participation. Corporate teams were also honoured with trophies in recognition of their support and contribution to the success of the event.
The annual DMI Diabetes Walk continues to bring together government, healthcare providers, development partners, corporate organisations and the public with one shared goal: to ensure that no child is denied access to life-saving diabetes care because of financial barriers.
Through every step taken, participants helped spread hope, raise awareness, and support a future where every child living with diabetes has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Kenya Joins Hundreds in DMI Diabetes Walk to Support Children Living with Type 1 Diabetes
