Vivo Energy Kenya, the company that distributes and markets Shell products and services in the country, and Safaricom PLC have rolled out a joint offer that gives online taxi drivers discounted fuel and essential digital work tools. The programme, which took effect on 4th December 2025, is available across all Shell stations nationwide and ties Safaricom’s Bundle Ya Deree package to a KES 2-per-litre fuel discount every Saturday. The initiative is designed to ease operating costs for drivers whose earnings are shaped daily by fuel prices, data access and insurance costs.
Safaricom introduced Bundle Ya Deree earlier this year as a work-focused package that keeps online drivers connected to the digital platforms that power their income. With Vivo Energy Kenya now integrated into the offer, drivers gain a recurring weekly saving at the pump in addition to data and communication benefits. The discount applies at all Shell outlets countrywide, a strategic approach that ensures value is available along the routes where drivers operate most.
What the Partnership Delivers
The joint offer brings together three core needs for online drivers:
- Fuel through Shell’s premium fuels, cashback rewards and nationwide convenience services.
- Connectivity to ride-hailing apps including Uber, Bolt, Little, Faras and Yego, as well as navigation through Google Maps.
- Protection through subsidized insurance covering accidents, illness and temporary loss of income.
This structure reflects the realities of Kenya’s ride-hailing economy, where fluctuating fuel prices, app dependency and unexpected downtime directly influence drivers’ monthly take-home pay.
Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali Kimathi, said the partnership was shaped by listening to the needs of drivers themselves. “This milestone puts together connectivity, convenience and savings, enabling drivers to focus on what they do best. We encourage drivers to fill up their tanks at Shell every Saturday to get the best value from this deal.”

The partnership goes further by integrating training and empowerment opportunities. Drivers will continue to access financial literacy and road safety training, as well as Safaricom’s Safire Connect forums sessions aimed at equipping mobility workers with practical entrepreneurship skills, digital fluency and knowledge on emerging AI tools.
These elements acknowledge that sustainable earnings in the digital transport economy rely not just on fares, but on long-term financial discipline, safe driving practices and the ability to adapt to changing technology.
Vivo Energy Kenya strengthens the initiative with its network of more than 340 Shell stations across the country. “Every day we serve millions of Kenyans across our retail network,” said Peter Murungi, Managing Director at Vivo Energy Kenya. “This collaboration further enhances our customer experience, making every stop at Shell more rewarding than ever.”
The fuel discount rollout is also part of Safaricom’s Shangwe celebrations marking 25 years of service. Under this banner, drivers will benefit from additional forums focusing on financial wellness, health and safety, and practical ways to use digital tools to grow and stabilise their income.

- Boda boda riders: Dial 5448# for Ofa Ya Boda

The collaboration between Safaricom and Vivo Energy Kenya signals a shift toward a more integrated support ecosystem. One that recognises the pressures drivers face and responds with practical, everyday value.
